My approach to anxiety therapy.

Anxiety is an emotion everyone experiences. However, it's one we tend to avoid because no one wants to have uncontrollable racing thoughts or feel their body having a physical response that is out of their control. Unmanaged anxiety can have an impact on our work life, home life and relationships. Anxiety therapy is helpful to improve your understanding and response to the emotion.

My approach to anxiety therapy is a collaborative one. You are the expert on yourself and I provide a safe space for you to become an expert at managing your anxiety. Anxiety treatment includes being open to reflecting on situations/persons/places that have increased your anxiety in the past to best learn the coping skills that will work for you. Therapy for anxiety is not one size fits all. Your time in sessions will help determine the best course of action for you to become an expert on yourself!

Consultations help with determining if I am a good fit for you and answer questions you may have for me about anxiety therapy. Once we’ve decided whether we are a good fit, I’ll send over some electronic paperwork for you to go over. Then sessions will begin!

Anxiety Therapy FAQs

What is therapy for anxiety like?

Therapy for anxiety consists of learning coping strategies that work best for you while working to understand triggers that have or continue to increase your anxiety. Once your ability to be present improves, you’ll be better able to use skills proactively to manage anxiety from escalating.

What kind of therapist should be seen for anxiety?

Anxiety therapists can come from two different educational backgrounds: Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT). Some psychiatrists also provide therapy along with medication evaluation and management. Licensed therapists accrue over 3,000 clinical hours before taking their state licensing exam.

When do I need anxiety therapy?

Anxiety therapy should be sought when it begins to impact your day to day living. This can look like shifts in your sleeping patterns, disruption with relationships, difficulty keeping up with tasks and more. If anxiety is an emotion you’ve suddenly begun to feel more often, it's a good time to seek anxiety therapy.

How long does therapy for anxiety take?

The length of anxiety therapy is different for everyone. Anxiety can be present for a lifetime for some and just weeks for others. The therapy time frame should be an ongoing discussion with your anxiety therapist. Therapy should continue as long as it feels good for you to do so.
